It is the first major survey of diCorcia’s work and includes images from four decades of his career, with over 100 photographs from six major series.

DiCorcia has been described as one of America’s most important and influential contemporary photographers. His work is said to appear as spontaneous snapshots of everyday life, but this belies the intricate staging of every detail in each photograph. A Hepworth spokersman said: “Often set in real locations, the lighting, subjects and arrangement are in fact carefully planned in advance, building the sense of heightened reality that characterises diCorcia’s images.”

The show opens at the Wakefield gallery on Friday February 14.
