Hunt for ghosts at Mirfield pub

Dewsbury team Ghost Chasers UK (GCUK) are to set up their paranormal equipment to try to make contact with spirits said to be haunting the Three Nuns pub in Mirfield.

Jenny Bryant, who set up the team in 2010, said the pub had a rich history and although it was not the original building, an inn had stood on the site since 1497, when it gave refuge to three nuns after the dissolution of the monasteries.

One of the nuns, Katherine Grice, was said to have committed suicide in the grounds and is thought to haunt the inn, along with the Prioress of Kirklees, reputed to have bled Robin Hood to death in Kirkloees estate nearby,

Jenny said when renovation work was done in 1985, workmen experienced supernatural occurrences including doors mysteriously opening and shutting, shadowy figures, and the sound of feet descending the cellar stairs while the manager was alone in the pub.

She said: “The GCUK team holds public events at the Three Nuns on a regular basis.

“The new pub renovations hopefully will kick off more supernatural activity than usual.

“Due to the extensive work the spirits that haunt the pub may be restless or even upset by the changes.

“From past experiences at other locations that have undergone renovations it’s very common for the spirits to become angered and upset with strangers moving things around and changing things.

“This is all speculation of course. GCUK and guests have experienced activity from footsteps and voices heard to apparitions seen in the bar area, woods and cellar.

“We have also had awesome Ouija board activity and table tipping.

“What more can we expect if the spirits have been unsettled with the work carried out?”

The hunt takes place on December 7 from 10.30pm to 3.30am and will be raising money for SCARD, a Mirfield charity which supports families who are bereaved following road traffic accidents. To book, and for more information, visit www.gcukparanormalevents.com.
