Cleckheaton is ready for biggest its biggest folk festival yet!

It is well-known in folk circles that Vin Garbutt is one of the hardest acts to follow – but after the Tyneside Troubadour’s mesmerising performance in Cleckheaton town hall last year, next month’s Cleckheaton Folk Festival looks to have found his match.

This year’s festival looks set to be one of the biggest ever, after organisers announced star names such as the Maddy Prior Trio and the Demon Barbers as headliners.

Maddy Prior was one of the members of folk supergroup Steeleye Span, whose chart-topping hit All Around My Hat still ranks as one of the most memorable tracks of the 1970s.

The Demon Barbers, led by singer/guitarist Damien Barber, are well known for their energetic live performances, and were awarded Best Live Act at the BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards 2009, before being nominated for the same award two years later.

Other acts at the weekend include Bernard Wrigley, the Wilson Family and the Mighty Doonans.

The traditional festival parade will take place through Cleckheaton town centre on Saturday July 5 at 11am – starting in Greenside, before continuing up Northgate and returning to Bradford Road down Horncastle Street.

The festival will take place from July 4-7 at various venues across Cleckheaton. Weekend tickets are £65, and £60 for seniors.
