Cinders and the gang have a ball with opening night audience

Pantomimes are all about family fun and this latest production by Dewsbury Collegians has that by the bucket load.

But audiences beware – some of those buckets (and water pistols) are filled and ready to be shared with cheeky crowds who dare to tell the Ugly Sisters that they’re no oil paintings!

Michael New and Jason Sykes brought real humour to the roles of Cheryl and Beryl, whether terrorising the audience and live band or sharing the secrets of their slapstick-filled beauty regime.

The show’s other double act Snitch and Snatch (Janet Jackson and Tracy Stocks) won plenty of laughs too with their physical comedy and a lively Head, Shoulders, Knees and Toes singalong that had the youngest members of the crowd dancing in the aisles.

But it was Jeremy Handley as Buttons who won the audience’s hearts by the final curtain and earned some of the biggest cheers of the night.

Special mention must also go to Sarah Bullers as the fantastically wicked Devilla and Hayley Thompson who was a delight as Cinderella.

Along with the laughs came some great musical numbers featuring the cast and a talented dance troupe.

My favourites included I’m A Believer and the It’s Only Make Belief/Crying duet.

The crew also excelled with all manner of creative props and colourful costumes.

The fun-filled finished product was a true team effort.
