St John’s Church in Ealand Road, Batley, will welcome the Featherstone Male Voice Choir next Saturday for a special carol concert.

The choir, which features singers aged 40-89, has performed around the world, including in Swittzerland, the Czech Republic and Canada, and has recorded two albums, including the 22-track Celebration album in 2003.

It also performed on television in 1997 and 1999 on ITV’s Tonight programme.

It celebrated it’s 50th anniversary in September with a special concert at Wakefield Cathedral, with a guest appearance from the famous Black Dyke Band.

The choir performs a wide variety of music, including song by Elvis Presley and Westlife, calypsos and spirituals and classic music by Handel, Puccini and Verdi.

It is also known for its performances of traditional choral and Christmas music.

The choir is already booked to perform at charity events next year and has also planned a trip to Belgium, where members will sing at the Tyne Cot Cemetery, the Menin Gate and and at St George’s Memorial Church in Ypres.

The December 14 concert will begin at 7.30pm.

Admission to the festive show costs £6.50 including supper.
