Blue light brigade

With blue lights flashing and two tones blaring, the emergency services are celebrating the 10th anniversary of their popular annual tri-service show this Saturday.

The show kicks off at noon at the West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service (WYFRS) Headquarters in Bradford Road, Birkenshaw, and the police, fire and ambulance services will carry out demonstrations for the crowds and give out safety advice.

WYFRS will have a host of specialist appliances and equipment on display and firefighters will carry out extrication on a smashed-up vehicle and the highly trained search and rescue team will demonstrate their skills.

Neighbourhood Policing Team officers will be there along with crime prevention officers, specials, explorers (teenage cadets), the road crime team and roads policing. The mounted division and police dogs will also put on an impressive display of their skills and agility.

Yorkshire Ambulance Service’s Hazardous Area Response Team, will exhibit some of their equipment and vehicles.

All five local authorities from West Yorkshire will be at the show, alongside the Environment Agency and Health experts. In addition there will be a miniature steam train and mini fire engines Freddy and Diddy Dennis, plus performances by the West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service Bands, majorettes, fairground rides, an assault course, donkey rides and a bouncy castle.

Charities and voluntary organisations will also be there plus refreshments. Proceeds will go to the Firefighters Charity, British Red Cross, Forget Me Not Trust, national and local charities. Entry £1, free for under fives.
