Another success from Dewsbury Arts Group’s double play bill night

What happens after you die –or more specifically, before you meet your maker –was the theme for Dewsbury Arts Group’s latest production.

First up on the double bill was Night’s Candles, by Hazel Wyld.

Faded Hollywood star Fizz, played by Carol Ward, and her thespian ex-husband, played by Chris Ward, find themselves in a beautiful garden. They don’t know how or why they are there – but every time a bell is rung, they see their younger selves, played by Rachel Wood and Phil Rushworth, and must helplessly watch the mistakes they made in years gone by replayed in front of their eyes

Carol Ward as Fizz was exceptional, equally adept in the play’s comedic and melancholy moments.

The second play was Purgatorio, by Ariel Dorfman, set in an institution which you are led to believe is purgatory.

Featuring only two actors, the characters are forced to see their mistakes and repent before being able to move on.

Lisa Dickinson and Mark Bailey’s performances were gripping, intense, believable and had the audience enthralled.

The Arts Group’s productions are always excellent and the standard is as good as professional shows I have seen.

You don’t have to travel to Leeds to see a top quality performance – just keep your eye out in Dewsbury!
