African-inspired art

ARTWORK influenced by female African-American artists such as Mae Weems, Kara Walker and Lorna Simpson is on show at Batley Library.

A collection of work by Sheree Angela Matthews will be on display at the library’s Art Kiosk until January 7.

It comprises Learning to Read, the artist’s take on the Peter and Jane educational books, and Body as Landscape, which features Polaroid images of the body – or are they? The collection explores the themes of race, gender, hidden histories and family.
