The Gainsborough Stage School’s annual show promises to have audiences clapping and singing along with songs old and new.

And this year’s performance will be particularly special as it also marks the 75th anniversary of the school.

Principal Shirley Wilson – one of Francis Laidler’s sunbeams at the Grand Theatre Leeds – will be in the audience as she is recovering from reconstructive knee surgery.

But her daughter Paula Kelly and granddaughter Alyce Kelly – both teachers at the school – will make sure the show goes on. Paula said: “Over the years we have put on shows and pantomimes in this area and raised thousands of pounds for local charities.

“We have also appeared on TV in Children in Need and have tap danced with the late Norman Wisdom and the stars of Coronation Street.”
