Having been postponed due to wet weather the tournament was switched to the all weather surface at Batley Sports and Tennis Centre.

Pre-final favourites, Bywell, were unable to attend due to other commitments leaving Heckmondwike, Whitchapel, Battyeford, along with debutants at this level, Staincliffe and Westmoor to compete for a place at the West Yorkshire final.

The six schools had won previous qualifying rounds, comprising of 35 teams.

Whitechapel, Staincliffe and Westmoor won their opening two matches.

Westmoor then posted a score of 51 against fellow unbeaten side Staincliffe.

Staincliffe were then restricted to a score of just 23 when they met Whitechapel in their fourth game.

Whitchapel made a quick start in reply but were pegged back by some terrific ground fielding, while the fall of wickets meant they still required 17 to win off the final two overs.

Despite losing a wicket in the penultimate over, Whitechapel produced some good shots and only required six to win from the final over.

The last Staincliffe bowler held his nerve and despite some lofty blows, he restricted Whitechapel to just four singles to ensure Stainclffe won by one run.

Westmoor remained unbeaten and met Whitechapel in the final match knowing victory would secure the tournament win.

Westmoor started brilliantly, claiming two wickets from the first three balls and they continued to keep Whitechapel in check, restricting them to a total of 27.

Westmoor’s run chase was steady but they were always slightly ahead of the required rate.

Whitechapel claimed four wickets to peg them back but Westmoor eventually won by 17 runs as they remained unbeaten throughout to be crowned North Kirklees champions and qualify for the West Yorkshire finals.
