Spen Victoria suffered a second successive defeat as the Bradford League Division Two promotion race hots up.

Leaders Farsley also slipped to defeat, against Keighley, and although Spen remain second they are now just nine points clear of third placed New Farnley and a further point ahead of Yeadon.

Rob Burton is the division’s leading wicket taker and he claimed 6-29 to help dismiss Yeadon for 170, which came thanks largely to the efforts of Tariq Mehboob (34) and Oliver Halliday (32).

Spen were shot out for just 75 in reply as spinner Ben Elvidge claimed 5-22.

Hartshead Moor were unable to do Spen a favour as they slipped to a 74-run defeat at the hands of New Farnley.

Martin Riley led the Moor attack, claiming 4-48 but Farnley racked up 240-8 thanks to the efforts of Nadeem Hussain (34), Dave McCallum (32no), Tom Suggitt (32), Dave Cummings (31) and Mick Cullen (30).

One-time Farnley player Will Smith made 49 for Hartshead but they were bowled out for 166 as McCallum took 3-28 and Hussain 3-37.

Gomersal raced to a nine-wicket win over Idle, passing their total of 225-9 in just 34 overs.

Opener Andy Gorrod and Richard Gould hit 15 fours in an unbeaten 104 and he shared a 162-run stand with Richard Gould )84).

Greg Pickles (38no)also impressed as Gomersal sealed an emphatic win which leaves them seventh.

Nick Cummings led Idle with a brilliant 107, while Pickles shone with the ball for Gomersal, as he collected 3-56.
