Gary Sykes is stepping up preparations for his British super featherweight title fight against Manchester’s Jon Kays at Dewsbury Sports Centre on May 24.
Sykes will this week spar Doncaster’s former IBF bantamweight champion Jamie McDonnell, who is set to fight on the Carl Froch v George Groves re-match at Wembley the week after Sykes’ title fight.
Trainer Julian McGowan said: “To have someone of the calibre of Jamie McDonnell as Central’s first outside boxer shows our intentions and we have had other trainers and fighters in touch about coming for a session and Central.
“We know the Dewsbury show will be a special night for everybody but we want to make sure we do things in style and that includes the entire training camp.”
Sykes was also guest at last Friday’s Heavy Woollen rugby league derby between Dewsbury Rams and Batley Bulldogs.
The 30-year-old spent time chatting with fans and having photos taken and many have vowed to snap up tickets for what is sure to be a sell out fight when Sykes meets Kays for the British title and the chance to win the Lonsdale belt outright.
Tickets are priced £35, although it has now been decided to sell junior tickets at £20.
Unbeaten prospect Tony Aitcheson has now been confirmed as fighting on the undercard in his fourth professional bout.
Tickets are available from Dewsbury Sports Centre, Modafones shop, opposite Dewsbury market, Deco Bar, Bradford Road, Batley, Central Boxing and from Gary or Tony.
