DEWSBURY Rams produced a superb display to push high flying Leigh Centurions all the way in a pulsating match a Tetley’s Stadium last night.
However, their efforts proved in vain as a late Leigh try denied the Rams a bonus point and they were finally relegated from the Co-operative Championship.
The Rams went into the break level at 22-22 and there was real hope among their supporters that they were on the brink of producing a great escape.
Leigh upped their game in the second half and two tries saw them lead 36-22 going into the final minutes.
At that stage, Dewsbury were on the verge of collecting a bonus point and moving out of the relegation zone but a converted try four minutes from full-time broke Rams hearts.
