Spenborough club runners improve in home West Yorkshire League meeting

Spenborough Athletics Club hosted the third West Yorkshire Cross Country League fixture on the fields behind the Princess Mary Stadium.

On home turf, Spenborough’s senior men improved their performance to finish sixth team.

The Spen runners were again led in by Joe Sagar who finished 13th in a field of 150. Paul Davis was the next Spen runner to finish placing 39th followed by Tobin Rhodes (41st), Kevin Ogden (44th), Tom Dart (57th) and Neil Barker (63rd) in a race won by Tom Adams from Ilkley.

The Spenborough women’s team also improved their placing finishing 11th team.

They were led in by Jenni Muston in 17th place followed by Natasha Greere (57th), Emma McGuire (75th) and Claire Berry (77th). Charlene Thomas from Wakefield won the race.

In the younger age races Molly Waring placed 27th in the Under-17 women’s race.

Olivia Reah was 25th and Mia Butler 39th in the Under-15s Girls race and Harry Brackenridge placed 22nd in the Under-15 Boys race.

Molly Firth (7th), Isabel Toher (21st), Ruby Lawton (52nd) and Emily Sharp (53rd) helped Spen to a ninth place finish in the Under-11 Girls race.

The first race of the day saw Spenborough celebrate a victory when Matthew Dalton won the Under-11 Boys event.

James Bell (41st) and Logan Bailey (50th) helped the team to finish ninth.

Spenborough club member Jack Barraclough also earned huge praise from competitors and spectators as he completed the Under-15s Boys race despite loosing both his shoes in
