Loose-forward Joel Farrell bagged two tries as Dewsbury Rams won at Featherstone Rovers for the second time this season.

The Rams repeated their league win at Big Fellas Stadium two months ago by beating Rovers 34-16 in Sunday’s Championship Shield clash.

Half-backs Matty Wildie and Anthony Thackeray were in top form as the second-placed Rams put themselves just one point behind leaders Featherstone with two games to play.

The Rams went ahead in the 21st minute with a delightful 70 yard try from Farrell that Shane Grady goaled.

Jason Crookes then scored from Thackeray’s high kick before Wildie sent in Etu Uaisele at the corner.

Brett Seymour adding the first of his four goals with a touchline conversion to make it 16-0.

Featherstone hit back when Will Milner went in for a try that Paul Sykes converted and Will Sharp crossed at the corner but the Rams took command again in the second-half.

Thackeray created Farrell’s second try and Nathan Conroy’s break saw Wildie score.

Rovers flickered when Jack Ormondroyd scored from Milner’s pass but the Rams had the final word when Farrell’s run paved led to Thackeray’s late touchdown.
