Dewsbury Rams face a tasty trip to Super League giants St Helens in the pick of their pre-season warm-up games scheduled for the new year.

The match has been agreed as part of the deal that saw Matthew Haggarty switch from the Rams to St Helens last season and will take place on Sunday, January 17.

It will be the first time Dewsbury have visited Saints’ Langtree Park and is sure to provide a useful work out for Glenn Morrison’s side.

The coach said: “The St Helens game will be great. The players will relish the opportunity to get over there and play against a strong side hopefully. It will also generate a bit of money for the club.”

Admission for the Saints trip has been set at £10 for adults, £8 for concessions and £5 for under-16s.

Rams supporters will get a first chance to see several of the club’s new signings when Batley Bulldogs visit Tetley’s Stadium in the annual Roy Powell Trophy clash on Boxing Day (kick off noon).

Although the traditional festive fixture comes early in the pre-season programmes of both clubs, Morrison will be keen to put on a show for the home supporters.

He added: “The Batley game is always a good one for the fans, and I know how important the win is to them, but it’s early days and an opportunity for us to test one or two things out.

“We’re pleased with the pre-season schedule we’ve managed to put in place.”

In addition, the Rams have arranged home friendlies with Championship rivals Sheffield Eagles (Sunday January 10) and London Broncos (January 31) before their opening league game away to Swinton Lions on February 7.

n Dewsbury’s Joel Farrell has been included in the 20-man Jamaica squad who face USA and Canada in World Cup qualifiers starting next week.
