Dewsbury Rams coach Glenn Morrison is confident his side can challenge for the Kingstone Press Championship Shield.

Dewsbury secured an eighth place finish in the regular season, guaranteeing them four home games in the Shield.

The top four Championship teams now move into the middle eights, along with the bottom four from Super League, while the remainder bid to secure a Shield semi-final spot.

Morrison said: “Our goal at the start of the season was to get in the top-eight and get the four home games, which we have done.

“It puts us in a good position to push for the Championship Shield final.”

Dewsbury ended the regular campaign with a 58-0 defeat at champions Leigh Centurions last Sunday.

Morrison was pleased with the performance of several of his players, adding: “We had some players who really stood up and had a dig, but others were found wanting.

“We matched them for periods in the game, but not long enough and they were just too good, it’s as simple as that.”

Dewsbury take a break to re-charge their batteries this weekend before commencing their Shield campaign at home to Swinton Lions on Sunday, August 7.

Back-to-back away games against Workington (August 14) and Halifax (August 21) are followed by the mouthwatering home clash with Bradford Bulls on Bank Holiday Monday, August 29.
