Josh Warrington decided to train out of the Central Boxing Club just over 12 months ago but already the move has brought title success.

Having won, and twice defended, the English featherweitght title, Warrington stepped up a level last Saturday when he took on fellow unbeaten fighter Samir Mouneimne.

The 12th round stoppage win saw Warrington return the beautiful Commonwealth strap to the Central Club, which is becoming a breeding ground for champions, despite its unauspicious surroundings.

Warrington said: “Who would have thought that this little club in the back of a mill in Batley would have had two English champions and now the Commonwealth.

“Its all about having the right camp and a happy camp brings a winning camp and moving to the Central has done me the world of good.

“It’s nice to have the input of other people and it’s something to add to the armoury.

“Working with people like Gary Sykes spurs you on and we have a buzzing gym, I hope Gary can go finish with a British title win and that we can have another belt back at the Central before Christmas.

“Mark Hurley is the man in charge of my strength and conditioning and I’d like to thank him, and the other people down at Central, for all the work they have done.”

Warrington also revealed the gym has received support from Liverpool fighter Tony Bellew, who is in training for his WBC light heavyweight world title fight against Adonis Stevenson

Warrington explained: “Tony Bellew had tweeted after the fight that he thought me against Gary Sykes would be a great fight until someone pointed out that we train out of the same gym.

“Bellew then posted that he wants some of what we are fed over here and it’s nice that boxers like that recognise the work we are putting in.”
