Dewsbury Rams have signed highly rated hooker Robbie Ward for the 2017 season.

Ward played 11 games for Leeds Rhinos in 2014-15 and after a stint in Australia, featured for Dewsbury’s Championship rivals Featherstone Rovers this season.

Ward leads a quarter of promising youngsters who still have ambitions of playing in Super League but will join the Rams.

Former Hull KR loose forward or hooker Aaron Ollett joins from Keighley, while Jamaican international Hamish Barnes bagged 14 tries in 15 matches for the Cougars last season and was been touted by the new Toronto franchise but will also team up with Glenn Morrison’s men.

Brad Foster came through the ranks at Castleford Tigers before joining Doncaster and he has also agreed a deal with Dewsbury.

Experienced Championship winger Gareth Potts joins the Rams, while fans favourite Lucas Walshaw has signed a permanent deal and will also act as Dewsbury’s development officer.

Mitch Stringer, who joined midway through the season from Sheffield Eagles, has also penned a deal to remain at the club in 2017, while Morrison has retained 15 of the current squad.

Adamson brothers Toby and Luke will remain, along with player of the season Josh Guzdek, Aaron Brown, Jason Crookes, James Glover, Scott Hale, Andy Kain, Donald Kudangirana, Dale Morton, Dominic Speakman, Rob Spicer, Paul Sykes, Jack Teanby and Tony Tonks.

Negotiations are continuing with other squad members but six Rams players have confirmed they are leaving.

Shane Grady, Dalton Grant and Joel Farrell have agreed deals with other Championship clubs, Ryan Hepworth and Paul Jackson are retiring, while Matt Groat will return to Australia.
