Mr Hemingway, from Ossett, was among a group of supporters who travelled to France and he was quick to praise the team’s efforts against a strong Toulouse side.

In a letter to The Reporter, Mr Hemingway said: “I pay tribute to the players who made a point of coming over to us at the end of the game and thanking us for travelling to support them.

“They even said sorry to us as they felt they had let us down. They hadn’t. No rugby league player needs to apologise to me or anybody else in my view.

“They give it their best shot. Some even made a point of joining us for a drink in the evening. They are a great bunch.

“Although we were well beaten by a very good Toulouse outfit, who I believe, will in this form, finish in the top two this season, it didn’t stop us having a cracking weekend.

“The Rams fans were brilliant and it was a privilege to be in their company.”
