Dewsbury Rams coach Glenn Morrison will give some of his fringe players a chance to shine in Sunday’s pre-season friendly against Sheffield Eagles (kick off 3pm).

James Glover and Brad Delaney look set to be given game time at half-back, while James Delaney and returning hooker Ryan Wright will also feature against the Eagles.

Winger Dalton Grant, who scored 18 tries last season, missed the Boxing Day defeat to Batley due to family commitments but will also get a first run out on the wing.

Morrison has told his entire squad that places for the opening Championship game at Swinton Lions are up for grabs and is looking forward to seeing how the squad perform.

Morrison said: “Everyone will get an opportunity in pre-season and we will mix and match the teams throughout the four games, with the focus being on the Swinton game.

“The two Delaneys, James Glover and Ryan Wright all missed Boxing Day so will get a run out and Dalton Grant will also play for sure.”

Morrison admits that while the results in warm-up matches are not important, he wants to see improvements in the level of performance as the season draws closer.

Sheffield have moved to full-time this season and as this is their first friendly fixture, Morrison is expecting Mark Aston to bring a strong Eagles side to visit Tetley’s Stadium.

Morrison added: “Sheffield do not usually play friendlies so I am sure it will be a pretty strong team. They are full-time now and will come looking to do a job.”

There is added incentive for those selected on Sunday to impress as Dewsbury travel to Super League giants St Helens the following week and the squad will be champing at the bit to be included for the trip to Langtree Park.
