McMahon bags double on Liversedge debut

Retford 1

Liversedge 3

CURTIS McMahon only signed for Liversedge on Saturday morning but he produced a memorable debut, bagging a second half brace to secure the Clayborners all three points in this Northern Counties East League Premier Division clash at Retford.

Adam Jarrett gave Liversedge a sixth minute lead but that was cancelled out when Retford’s Brett Lucas equalised after 21 minutes and it remained 1-1 at half-time.

McMahon had joined from Albion Sports on Saturday morning but he was in on the scoring act after 52 minutes, getting on the end of a cross to rifle home and put Liversedge back in front.

McMahon added his second after 74 minutes and it proved enough to secure all three points for Eric Gilchrist’s men, who have no game this weekend, but lie 13th in the Premier Division.

Liversedge: Blythe, Butters, Rothell, Wood, Cooper (Wardman 53), Riordan, McMahon, Hirst, Bugg, Bojang (Williams 84), Jarrett (Dennison 86).

n Liversedge Reserves recorded an impressive 2-0 win over Stalybridge Celtic in the Lancashire Reserve League last Saturday.

Christian Jackson and Matthew Walker scored Liversedge’s goals and they face a derby clash at home to Thackley on Saturday when many of the first team are expected to attend.
