Matthew strikes at Spring events

Matthew Wilby has struck gold at the Yorkshire Spring Swimming Championships.

Crowlees School pupil Matthew, 10, won medals at the distance events at the John Charles Centre for Sport while he also medalled at the sprint event held at Ponds Forge, Sheffield.

In total he won four medals, including gold in the 50m breaststroke which is his favourite event and he was really pleased to win the title for the second time.

He also won bronze in the 200m breaststroke, achieving a North East Regional qualifying time for a competition to be held in June.

His two other medals were in the team events – a gold in the freestyle relay and silver in the medley relay team from the Borough of Kirklees Swimming squad. Matthew was also a finalist in the 400m and 50m freestyle.
