Woodlands edge cup victory on a bowl out

Woodlands booked their place in the Priestley Cup quarter-finals after edging out Cleckheaton 2-1 in a bowl-out last Sunday.

The outstanding second round ties were all affected by the weather with other games decided on a faster scoring rate.

Woodlands will feel justice was done after they dismissed their near neighbours for just 98 with Chris Brice taking 3-8 and Sarfraz Ahmed (3-17).

Cleckheaton’s top scorer was Mohammad Zaman with 34.

Woodlands were 14-2 after 6.4 overs when a storm struck storm and play was halted before the 10 over cut off when a comparison of run rates can come into effect.

The bowl out took place in the Woodlands indoor sports hall, with the home side edging through 2-1 to secure a home tie against Baildon this Sunday.

Scholes are also through to the last eight after defeating Yeadon on a faster scoring rate.

Kasir Maroof hit an unbeaten 84 against his former club as Scholes made 163-3 in 25 overs.

Yeadon were 97-7 after 18 when play was abandoned. James Stansfield took 4-20.

Scholes will host Lightcliffe in the quarter-finals after they saw off the challenge of the Championship A leaders Batley.

Batley were restricted to 87-9 in 25 overs as Suleman Khan (3-3) and Sam Gardner (3-11) did the damage before Lightcliffe made 41-1 from 11 overs to win on faster run rate.

Gomersal bowed out to Undercliffe by virtue of a superior run rate.

Gomersal batted first in the 40 overs per side contest and made 161-6 with Adam Greenwood hitting an unbeaten 60.

The rain restricted Undercliffe’s reply to 19 overs during which time they made 85-1.

Champions Pudsey St Lawrence secured their last-eight spot with victory over Championship B side Wrenthorpe on faster scoring rate.

Wrenthorpe made 184-9 in a match reduced to 30 overs per side before St Lawrence raced to 131-0 in 17 overs to secure the win.
