Twelve-man Sharks battle for crucial win

The Sharks played 50 minutes with only 12 men after Lee Gilmour was shown the first red card of his career with only half an hour played.

The referee brandished the card for Gilmour after tempers flared between both sets of players.

Sharks got off to the perfect start when Matthew Tebb intercepted and ran to halfway before releasing Will Gledhill, who surged away from the chasing pack to get himself over the line and give his side the lead.

The Sharks increased their lead through Tom Rodgers as the prop powered over the line on the last tackle to score his second try in as many games.

It wasn’t long until Shaw Cross had their third try, Jack Gledhill producing a magnificent offload as he was being forced into touch to keep the move alive and two tackles later, Gilmour barged through to score.

Danny Flowers kicked a superb 40-20 shortly after Gilmour’s exclusion, which gave Shaw Cross the relief and yards they needed.

On the stroke of half-time Jack Gledhill scored a crucial try after his brother Will played him in on the left wing.

The hosts spent the majority of the second half defending and despite the mounting pressure from the Warriors they held out for the win.

Two quick fire tries from Hunslet mid-way through the half quelled the atmosphere around the pitch.

The visitors nearly scored another moments later but man-of-the-match Jake Dooner halted an attacker to preserve his side’s lead.

Warriors did add a third as Luke Rayner scored in the corner. The conversion was wide of the posts and Shaw Cross held on for the remaining 10 minutes to secure the vital two points.

Victory keeps the Sharks’ hopes of survival alive as they move to within a point of 10th placed East Leeds and they host Underbank Rangers on Saturday.
