Sharks overcome Moor in first HW Girls Cup final

Shaw Cross Sharks were crowned the first Heavy Woollen Girls Cup final winners when the Under-14s defeated hosts Dewsbury Moor 20-10 in an entertaining game last Wednesday.

Excellent skills were on show from both teams, before the Sharks emerged victorious, with player-of-the-match, picked by the Heavy Woollen Committee, going to Sharks player Aome Stanley.

Runners-up awards and winners trophies were presented by Heavy Woollen chairman Mick Turner.

Thornhill Trojans Under-10 Warriors recovered from a slow start to earn victory away to York Acorn.

Outstanding tackling from C Blacka earned him MoM and the parents award.

Top Tackler went to W Lister with two try savings tackles. which was the key to victory, while C Harrison’s fine try earned magic moment.

B Robertshaw was tireless in earning the 100 per cent effort award, while Thornhill’s impressive second half display was instrumental in the win.

Birstall Victoria Under-11s ended the first half of their season with a good display against Newsome Panthers.

The Vic ran in six tries, as debutant Harry Hartley grabbed his first for the club to win the attacking contribution award, with Freddie Town scooping magic moment after also scoring his first try.

There was a brace a piece for Harry Avis and Brandon with Thomas Harrison kicking five goals.

Best trainer was Cameron Stevens, with Brandon Hanson taking supporters star.

Verne Capstick received man of steel and best opponent was Jamie Richardson.
