SWIMMER Matthew Wilby completed a hat-trick of successes at the Yorkshire Championships, when he won gold at Ponds Forge,

The 10-year-old Crow Lees School pupil won the 50 metre breaststroke at last year’s Yorkshire Winter Championships and backed it up with another gold medal at the spring competition before returning to Sheffield a fortnight ago to retain his winter 50m title and complete his hat-trick.

Matthew also collected bronze in the 100m Individual Medley and achieved top 10 finishes at both the 50m freestyle and 50m backstroke.In winning gold at this year’s Yorkshire Winter Championships, Matthew, from Mirfield, also achieved the standard to compete at the North East Championships in Sunderland to be held over December 1 and 2.
