Liversedge hold nerve to seal Wheatley Cup final place

Liversedge Second team clinched a thrilling last-ball win over Townville to secure their place in the Wheatley Cup final at Wrenthorpe on Sunday, August 21.

Adam Clarke took 3-27, while Will Atkin and James Lunn picked up two wickets apiece as Liversedge dismissed Townville for 161 in 38.1 overs.

Opener Steve Walton (44) and Dale Jones (32) were the top scorers.

Atkin (46) and Lunn (41) helped Liversedge into a strong position but although they lost six wickets, David Ashton steered them over the finishing line off the penultimate ball of the match, as he ended 31 not out.

Liversedge will face Northowram Fields in the final after overcame Crossbank Methodists by eight wickets.

Crossbank’s top scorer was Wasim Latif (33), while there total of 159-6 from 40 overs was boosted by 29 extras, including 27 wides.

Nathan Rushworth (2-12) and Callum Phillipson (2-12) kept things tight, despite Fields gifting Crossbank an additional 4.3 overs from the wides conceded.

An opening stand of 73 between Paul Bottomley and Louis Cockburn gave Northowram the perfect start in reply.

Bottomley struck eight fours on his way to 64 not out, while Cockburn hit six boundaries in his 43.

Lewis Moore helped complete the task with 37no including three fours and two sixes.
