Foster blasts century in Heaton cup victory

Hanging Heaton eased into the ECB National Cup second round with an impressive 185-run victory over Doncaster Town last Sunday.

Richard Foster, a close season signing from Methley, smashed an unbeaten 128 in only his second game for his new club.

Foster peppered clubhouse windows and the adjacent bowling green in a 122 ball innings which included nine sixes and eight fours.

Foster put on 163 runs for the second wicket with opener Nick Connolly (80) and shared an unbroken third-wicket century stand with Joe Fraser (59no) as Heaton reached 294-2 from 45 overs.

Doncaster Town never recovered from losing two wickets from the opening over by Dan Busfield but it was another new signing, Tom Chippendale, who stole the show.

Chippendale made it 13 wickets in two days for himself by taking 7-40 as the visitors were skittled for 109.

The former Ossett bowler’s haul included four wickets in four balls, with Matt Head (66no) Doncaster’s top scorer.

Heaton travel to South Kirkby Colliery in the ECB Cup second round this Sunday and face a Heavy Woollen Cup trip to Delph and Dobcross on Monday.

Moorlands booked their place in last night’s Heavy Woollen Cup second round draw with a four-wicket win over Gomersal.

Moorlands, who suffered an eight-run defeat to Slaithwaite in the Huddersfield League Championship on Saturday, restricted Gomersal to 189-9.

Liam Thomas (33) top scored for the Oxford Road men in the face of impressive bowling from Dave Winn (3-16).

Moorlands were led to victory by Andy Fortis (58) and Michael Rounding (57no).

Michael Padgett claimed 4-49 the Huddersfield League game against Slaithwaite, who made 203-5. Moorlands replied with 195 as Michael Rounding (71) top scored.

East Bierley slipped to a 90-run HW Cup defeat at Whitley Hall, who posted 293-8 thanks to Jim Tasker (98) and Matt Milburn (69).

Arshad Tufes (3-31) was pick of the East Bierley bowling and the visitors were bowled out for 203 in reply.

Bjorn Taylor (56) top scored in the face of fine bowling from James Ahmed (4-33) and Callum Bethel (3-55).

Former Bradford League player Steve Foster guided Treeton to an eight-wicket win over Scholes.

Foster claimed 3-35 as Scholes were dismissed for 150, with Mosin Hussain (38) leading the way and Foster then top scored with 77 not out to steer Treeton to victory.

Birstall secured a three-wicket win over Buttershaw St Pauls as they edged past the home side’s 125 all out, while there were also wins for New Farnley over Wakefield Thornes, Huddersfield side Scholes and Wrenthorpe.
