East Bierley win to climb out of relegation zone

Defeat saw Congs slip back into the bottom two, five points behind Morley and a further two adrift of East Bierley.

Bjorn Taylor led the way for East Bierley as he made 60 from 71 balls as the home side posted a score of 186-9.

Taylor hit four sixes and six four in a fine innings and received good support from Danis Hussain (40).

Jonathon Donnelly was the pick of the Congs bowling with 4-47.

Congs were bowled out for 115 in reply as Tuseif Arshad (4-28) and Awais Ejaz (4-52) produced excellent spells and only Nick Lindley (36) threatened their dominance.

Bottom team Scholes saw their two-match winning run come to an end as they suffered a four-wicket defeat against Bradford & Bingley.

Captain James Stansfield’s defiant 39 was the highlight of a disappointing Scholes innings of 106 all out as they were undone by the bowling of spinner Noman Ali (4-27) and Yassir Abbas (3-36).

Scholes are 14 points adrift of Congs, while this win gives Bingley some breathing space as they are 14 points above the drop zone and now have four sides below them in the standings.

Woodlands secured a thrilling one-run win over New Farnley at Albert Terrace.

Woodlands were reduced to 57-6 as Mark Lawson (4-30) impressed but Scott Richardson (53) led the recovery as they posted a total of 199-8.

Richard Atkins (60no) and James Middlebrook (48) led the reply and Farnley needed 14 from the last over to win but could only manage 12.

The match between Farsley and Lightcliffe was abandoned after rain intervened.

Farsley recovered from 61-5 to make 162-8 as Mark Harrison made an unbeaten 40.

The pick of the Lightcliffe bowlers were Rob Burton (3-35) and Jonathan Whiteoak (3-51).

Lightcliffe had made 21-1 from 5.5 overs when play was abandoned.
