Dominant Sharks rack up impressive victory

The Sharks ran in 10 first half tries as they marked the return of former Super League player Lee Gilmour in some style and boost their hopes of moving clear of the relegaton zone.

Matthew Tebb opened the scoring after he broke through the Elland defence and darted overthe try line.

Jack Gledhill was on the end of a swift passing move to score in the near corner after help from younger brother Will.

Sharks captain John Rourke got his name on the scoresheet as he scored twice in a matter of minutes.

Rourke powered through two tackles to score between the posts before collecting a pass from Danny Flowers to grab his second as the Sharks led 22-0 after 20 minutes.

Will Gledhill gathered Tebb’s pass and cut inside to score.

The Gledhills combined again as Will played the ball cleverly to Jack, who accelerated down the left wing to extend the advantage.

Flowers was on hand to add conversions and he then scored a try himself, intercepting a pass and racing 90 metres for a great individual try.

Gilmour displayed his brilliance as he cut through and offloaded to Danny Stanley who scored between the posts.

Tom Rogers showed strength to power over and Will Gledhill collected a pass from Tebb and dummied over for the Sharks’ 10th try.

Sam Ottewell broke through, fed Brandan French, who offloaded for Ross Roebuck to score his eighth try of the season three minutes after the re-start and Jack Gledhill completed his hat-trick with a try in the corner.

Ottewell ran the length of the pitch to score before Elland grabbed a consolation when Gareth Webb intercepted a pass and showed good pace to score his side’s only try of the game.

Flowers capped a man-of- the-match performance with the final try of the match, racing 50 metres down the touchline to take his tally to 32 points.

Gilmour was pleased by the performance on his return to the club, saying: “It was nice to be able to play with some old friends and that the boys got a win. Hopefully we can build some confidence, have a strong finish to the back end of the season and try to get out of that bottom four.

“There are some really talented young kids and with Flowers and Tebb in the halves, there is a nice blend of experience and youth.”

Cross travel to Milford Marlins on Saturday, where they will be looking to avenge a 19-12 defeat earlier in the season, although they will be without key players Gilmour, Flowers and Jake Dooner.
