DEWSBURY Rams latest signing, Italian international Dario Esposito, believes Glenn Morrison has put together a squad capable of challenging next season.

Esposito met his new teammates for the first time on Wednesday ahead of the opening pre-season training session and the New Zealand-born front or back rower is excited by the challenge Dewsbury have offered.

The 24-year-old said: “I watched Glenn in the NRL and Super League and although I didn’t know him personally, what he said certainly appealed to me.

“With the squad Glenn has assembled and the players that remain from last year, I’m sure we have a lot to offer.”

Esposito has played in the Queensland Cup in Australia and qualified to represent Italy through his grandfather, while he also has Championship experience having player for York last season.

He turned down an offer to return to the Knights to join Morrison’s Rams revolution.

Morrison said: “Dario came to the UK last year and backed himself to make the Super League.

“He is a skilful front or back rower with plenty of pace. He is very committed and prepared to work to achieve his goals.”

With the Boxing day derby at Batley already confirmed, the Rams have also finalised a home game against Halifax for January 6, with the traditional fixture against Bradford Bulls taking place on January 13. The Championship campaign starts on the weekend of February 3.

n Richard Slater has stepped down as assistant coach.

Slater was announced as Morrison’s assistant in September but a promotion at work means he can no longer commit the time to the job and the head coach will now look to appoint a new assistant.
