FC GAWTHORPE maintained their 100 per cent start in Wakefield League Division One with a sixth straight win.

Gawthorpe, who play at Bywell Fields in Dewsbury, have put together a team of well-known local players and they proved too strong for Weavers Arms last Saturday, running out 6-1 winners.

Tim Clarke, James Blane and Craig Gomersall bagged a brace apiece for Gawthorpe, who are five points clear of second placed Black Swan Normanton.

Gawthorpe travel to bottom side Woodhouse Hill WMC on Saturday aiming for a seventh straight win before hosting Howden Clough in the Wheatley Cup on September 17.

Battyeford Airedale Celtic are up to fourth, eight points behind Gawthorpe with a game in hand, after they overcame Ossett Two Brewers 6-0.

Daniel Sullivan and Tim Bruce led the way with two goals apiece, while Charlie Frear and Anthony Sowden also netted.

Dewsbury Rangers are level on 10 points with Battyeford but have played two games more.

Goals from Rob Smith, Asa Audsley and a Jonny Ginnelly penalty secured Rangers a 3-1 win at home to Inns of Court.

Savile Youth eased into the second round of the Spen Valley Cup with an 8-1 victory over Norfolk thanks to a hat-trick from Bobat and further strikes by Polfi (two), I Hazi, Adam Hazi and Zee.

Fanni and Zazam were on target for Ravensthorpe Rangers as they bowed out 4-2 to Girlington, despite leading at half-time, while Howden Clough suffered a 6-3 defeat against Fairbank.

Bulls Head Dewsbury eased to a 6-1 victory over Inter Batley thanks to a Sam Pickles hat-trick and one apiece from Ryan Simmons, Adam Gibson and Danny Hobbat.

Ravensthorpe Bulls turned a 2-1 half-time lead into a 5-1 success away to BD3 United Reserves (Faisal) as goals from Liam Platt, Lee Ashton, Adam Nichols and a Paul Beaumont brace booked their place in the second round.

Marsh eased into the third round of the cup thanks to a 4-1 win over Vision, with Steven Swift, Danny Stocks, Chris Blackburn and Mark Wigley bagging a goal each against a consolation from Lewis Playburn.

Matty Jubb bagged a hat-trick for Cleckheaton Sporting but it wasn’t enough to prevent a 6-3 defeat to Heckmondwike Sports, as Luke Barraclough bagged four goals, while Craig Sykes and Jake Hirst struck one each.

Two second-half goals without reply secured Soothill a 3-1 win at ALC Utd in the only Spen Valley League Division One game to be played last Saturday. Des Dixon’s first-half goal for ALC saw the sides level at the break but Soothill secured all three points with goals from Raffa (two) and Andrew Barnes.
