HUddersfield Town are on their way to Wembley to contest the npower Division One play-off final with Sheffield United on Saturday May 26 with the ultimate prize a place in the Championship next season.

The Terriers had hoped to make progress to the final in a comfortable, stress free way, especially after a 2-0 away win at Stadium MK last Saturday, However, as is Town’s tradition fans at the Galpharm on Tuesday night were left biting their nails to the bitter end.

Huddersfield took the lead with Jordan Rhodes’ 40th goal of the season, he is the top scorer in the country now, two ahead of Arsenal’s Robin Van Persie.

At 3-0 up on aggregate progress appeared smooth. However, things turned on a hand injury to Town goalkeeper Ian Bennett.

His replacement Alex Smithies’ first act was to pick the ball out of the back of the net after Daniel Powell’s strike from 18 yards.

The nerves were tingling as the visitors peppered the Town defence but somehow all efforts were repelled.

In the second minute of four minutes injury time Dons substitute Alan Smith stopped to head home a second Dons goal.

Could there be another twist to the tale?

Town held on to secure a place at Wembley it wasn’t easy and it wasn’t pretty but that’s how it goes for Huddersfield these days.
