Howden Clough players celebrate reaching the Under-11s League Trophy final, where they will meet Gomersal.

Howden Clough Under-11 B team overcame Lepton Thunder last Sunday to set up a Huddersfield Junior League Trophy final clash with local rivals Gomersal.

The trophy is aimed at teams in the lower divisions of the league, giving them chance to win some silverware, and Clough reached the semi-finals with an 8-0 win over Honley and a 5-1 success away to Kirkburton.

Clough play in Division K and are a league below Lepton and it was the home side who got off to the better start, opening the scoring within the first five minutes.

Clough fought back and spent the next 40 minutes attempting to equalise and they created a number of chances

With 12 minutes remaining Sam Kitchen capped a MoM performance for Clough when he bundled the ball over the line after a goal mouth scramble to make it 1-1.

With four minutes of normal time left, Kitchen produced a great run down the right, beating several players before cutting inside to cross the ball for James Marlow to smash home from two yards out to give Clough the lead.

Lepton launched final attack and fired a shot from 20 yards out which goalkeeper Harry Wainwright did well to push wide and secure his side’s win.

The Under-11s trophy final between Clough and Gomersal will take place on April 30 at Shelley FC, Storthes Hall Park, kick off 1pm.

Allan Moverley has been coaching the majority of the squad for the last five years, since the team were Under-7s.

He was delighted to see the hard work pay off and the 11-man squad can now look forward to appearing in a cup final next month.

The Clough team are captained by Naeem Munir, with Toby Kelly, Adam Makda, Brock Howarth, Alfie Bean, Sufyan Daji, Evan Moverley and Jake Williams joining player of the match Kitchen, winning goalscorer Marlow and goalkeeper Wainwright.

Gomersal play in Division G and booked their final spot with a 2-1 win over Greetland Golds in last Sunday’s semi, having previously overcome Hebden Bridge Vipers and Shelf.
