Last week’s impressive 36-24 victory over Swinton Lions cemented Dewsbury’s place in the Kingstone Press Championship Shield top four and left them seven points clear of second-bottom Workington.

The Rams are very much targeting a top-four finish, which would secure a place in the Shield semi-finals but Morrison is also keen to end any lingering doubts.

He said: “If we can win at Workington, we will be looking up, instead of over our shoulder.

“Relegation should be out of reach. We are one from one, so we can look forward to the next games.”

Dewsbury were edged out 22-20 at Workington last month and are keen to avoid a repeat as they bid to build on last week’s victory over Swinton, which saw the Rams run in six tries, including a terrific solo effort by loanee Lucas Walshaw.

Morrison was pleased with his side’s effort in the opening Shield encounter, adding: “We got the game won and then we took our foot off the gas.

“I took a few players off towards the end and they scored three easy tries, which was a bit of a shame but the game was won before that. We needed to get the game won, we did that and now we move on.”

Scrum-half Andy Kain reported a sore shoulder after the Lions clash, while Rob Spicer carried an injury into the game, but Rams came through with no major new fitness concerns.

Workington suffered a 30-16 defeat away to Oldham in their opening Shield match, which leaves them level on 11 points with Cumbrian rivals Whitehaven at the foot of the Championship and Dewsbury will be looking to pile on the misery this week.
