Injury list mounts for Morrison's Rams

Dewsbury Rams coach Glenn Morrison admits the club's crippling injury crisis has become a shambles as his side prepare for tomorrow's trip to Sheffield Eagles.

The Rams had no fewer than 15 players sidelined for the Challenge Cup visit of York City Knights a fortnight ago and things worsened at Halifax last week.

Rob Spicer was forced to withdraw from the squad last Friday, while Dale Morton was initially left out through illness but stepped out of the stands to play after Karl Pryce picked a up calf strain in the pre-match warm-up at Halifax.

Morrison revealed: “I asked him (Dale) if he could play and he jumped out of the crowd, rushed to get some kit on and, to be fair, he had a good game, considering he was as white as a ghost and he didn’t have any warm-up. It is the first time I have had to pull a player out of the crowd.

“I have never seen an injury crisis like it. It is an absolute shambles at the moment.”

Dewsbury were also forced to re-shuffle the pack during last Sunday’s game after Paul Jackson injured an arm but despite the mounting problems, the Rams put up a brave fight before slipping to a 23-14 defeat at The Shay.

Despite the horrendous injury crisis, Morrison believes his side could still have come away victorious.

Morrison added: “The game was there to be won.

“We just weren’t quite good enough to build pressure at their end of the field.

“We handed the ball over too easily at times and we dropped the ball twice over the line putting it down but it was a good effort, considering all the circumstances.”

Dewsbury head to Sheffield tomorrow having won just one of their last seven Championship games, ironically against the Eagles on Easter Monday.
