Dewsbury Moor’s youthful Pennine League side suffered a 28-10 defeat at home to tough tackling Sherburn Bears in Division Four East.

Moor were well in the game and gave a good account for 70 minutes but sin-binnings allowed Sherburn to control the latter stages.

Good runs by Lewis Harvey, Alex Hollingworth and Archie Bruce set up a position for scrum-half Bradley Samme to nip over close to the posts and Jacob Flathers converted.

Moor kept up the momentum as Max Vernon, Louis Greenwood, Dominic Scanlon and Cain Crotty produced telling runs.

Sherburn replied with a smart move which resulted in an equalising converted try and the sides remained locked 6-6 at half-time.

The second half started with both sides trying to gain the upper hand but Moor’s cause wasn’t helped when centre Lewis Harvey was forced out of the action with a nasty facial injury.

Sherburn went ahead with another converted try but Cameron Bruce attempted to take Moor forward with support from Alex Jeffs, Joel Moorhouse and Scott Sheard.

A good move resulted in Jonjoe Fox being sent over and Moor were back in the game at 12-10.

Moor had a series of attacks repelled by the Sherburn defence, while a forward surge led by debutant second row forward Kyle Wadsworth was held up over the line by four visiting defenders.

Wadsworth retaliated to an alleged foul in the tackle and was subsequently sin-binned.

A neat Bruce grubber kick was cleared by a desperate Sherburn defence before Aiden Sheard could touch down.

Sherburn then took control late in the game to add further scores, which gave the final scoreline a somewhat flattering look.

n Dewsbury Moor’s Cain Crotty, Cameron Adleigh and John Bowness helped Yorkshire Under-19s defeat Lancashire 20-14 at Stanningley last Sunday.

Jordan Foster represented the Yorkshire Open Age side who suffered defeat to Lancashire later in the afternoon.

Both Yorkshire open age and Under-19s travel to Cumbria in the second stage of the series on Sunday November 15.
