Dewsbury Moor claimed their second win of the winter season in Pennine League Division Four East as they defeated Swillington 30-16 last Saturday.

The match was played in constant rain but the Heckmondwike Road pitch was in prestine condition, allowing both sides to play free-flowing rugby.

George Croisdale, Scott Sheard, Alex Jeffs and Aiden Sheard produced testing runs, setting up Yorkshire Under-19s player Cameron Adleigh to storm over for an unconverted try.

Another county player, John Bownass, along with brothers Cameron and Archie Bruce madeiroads into the swillington defence and James Samme went over wide out to put Moor 8-0 ahead.

Swillington replied with a converted try and it took good defending from Simon Whitely, Conor Ineson and Elliot Sheard to deny the visitors a second try.

Full-back Max Vernon produced a side stepping run which left Swillington tacklers in his wake as he grabbed a cracking try to extend Moor’s half-time lead to 12-6.

Good runs by Bob Canavan, Brad Foster and Elliot Sheard set up hooker Archie Bruce to go over for a well worked try and Brad Foster converted.

Swillington then staged a fight back as they responded with two quick fire tries, one of which was converted to reduce the deficit to 18-16.

Jonjoe Fox, Cameron Adleigh and George Croisdale produced testing runs, which led toloose forward Samme scoring his second try and Foster converted to give Moor breathing space at 24-16.

Moor produced some sparkling rugby late on and Vernon, Aiden Sheard, George Croisdale and Scott Sheard made telling runs which led to Brad Foster going over for Moor’s final try, which Cameron Bruce converted to seal victory.

Moor expressed their thanks to Darren Tomlinson for looking after an injured Swillington player, who he took to Dewsbury hospital.

Moor will look to build on this victory and climb the Pennine League Division Four East table on Saturday when they travel to Allerton Bywater, who have lost their opening three matches, ko 2pm.
