THORNHILL Trojans continue their bid to avoid relegation from the NationalConference Premier Division with another tricky trip, this time to Skirlaugh tomorrow (2.30pm).
The Humberside outfit are second in the table and a notoriously difficult side to beat on their own pitch. However, Thornhill showed their fighting spirit with a very good draw at Rochdale Mayfield last weekend, when they finished with 10 men against
12 due to a couple of sin-bins and a sending off.
They went a point behind with two minutes left but showed great determination to launch a last attack which saw hooker Richard Pachniuk land an equalising drop-goal to earn a valuable point. The experienced Pachniuk has been a key figure this time and his form of late has been outstanding.
The point took the Trojans one ahead of Castleford Panthers in the last relegation spot. Panthers have only two games left, compared with Thornhill's four, and one of them is tomorrow at third-placed East Hull where they will do very well to pick up anything.
Shaw Cross Sharks have again no game so their late challenge for a promotion spot in the First Division is put on hold. There will be further disappointment as the Sharks have five players in the Yorkshire squad, who play on Sunday March 30, so the trip to Ince Rose Bridge that weekend will be off.
A BARLA team is in action the following midweek when Cross have Matt Myers, Richard Squires, Danny Smith and Paul Brown in the squad and Thornhill have Andy Broadhead and Johnny Campbell selected.
