MIRFIELD Parish Cavaliers have strengthened their batting line-up with the signing of opener Harvey Anderson from Farsley as they bid to pull away from the Central Yorkshire League Premier Division relegation zone.
Anderson, who is also a useful slow bowler, helped Farsley win the Bradford League Division Two title last season but has struggled to hold down a first team place, so opted to move to Wellhouse Lane and he made his debut at New Farnley last week.

Parish occupy the third relegation place but they are level on points with Northowram Fields ahead of tomorrow’s daunting trip to Wrenthorpe.

The Cavaliers will be hoping to put on a better display than the last time the sides met, as Wrenthorpe racked up 356-4 on their way to a 270-run win in the first round of the Heavy Woollen Cup in April.

Hopton Mills are in a rich vein of form having won their last three matches to move fourth-bottom in Division One.

Things looked bleak for Hopton at the end of May as they were rooted to the foot of the table after seven defeats but they are unbeaten in June and have a good chance of extending their fine run at Birstall A.

Last Saturday’s impressive victory over Wrenthorpe A, which saw their opponents slip to the foot of the table, was thanks largely to the contributions of Gary Senior (5-88), Chris Scott (60) and Steve Bland (55no).

Hunslet Nelson host Woodkirk at Gypsy Lane. Woodkirk are a point better off than Nelson and defeat for either would almost certainly rule them out of the race for the first division title and the only available promotion spot.

Moorlands will be hoping to bounce back from last Sunday’s Jack Hampshire Cup quarter-final defeat by Premier Division leaders Methley, when they hosts East Leeds. Moorlands are just behind Nelson and Woodkirk, so could break into the top four with a six-point win.

n Hanging Heaton remain in serious relegation trouble at the foot of Bradford League Division One following their defeat to Gomersal last Saturday.

Heaton are now 18 points behind Manningham Mills and a further eight adrift of Cleckheaton and safety.

They face a daunting fortnight as they visit title chasing Baildon on Saturday (1.30pm) before clashes with Pudsey St Lawrence and Manningham Mills.

n Savile Stars face a top-of-the-table clash at Leeds-West Riding League Division One leaders Caribbean tomorrow.

Last week’s 199-run success over Stanley Falcons, leaves Stars handily placed in second with six wins from their eight matches.

They are unbeaten as they also have two abandoned games in their record, while Caribbean have won all eight of their matches in their quest to win the title in their final season before moving to the Central Yorkshire.
