Nicholson stars in Cleckheaton win

CLECKHEATON recorded a terrific six-wicket win over Pudsey St Lawrence to help ease their relegation worries inBradford League Division Onelast Saturday.
Ian Nicholson made an unbeaten 80, including eight fours and four sixes, while his dad Neil hit 37 not out in an unbeaten fifth-wicket stand of 66 to seal a much-needed win. Overseas player Asif Khan also chipped in with 37.

elped restrict St Lawrence to 216-8 by claiming 4-60, while Iain Wardlaw chipped in with 2-82.

St Lawrence were made to pay for a slow start to their innings despite useful contributions from Gareth Clough (63) and Liam Duckitt (33).

The win helped Cleckheaton move 19 points clear of second-bottom Manningham Mills , who went down by 18 runs to Pudsey Congs.

John Wood’s side are now 44 points clear of bottom side Hanging Heaton, who failed to pick up a point from their trip to Baildon.

Woodlandssuffered a seventh defeat of the season as they went down by three wickets to leaders Bradford and Bingley.

Scott Richardson led the Woodlands innings with 51 not out and with late support from Usman Salim (25) and Safraz Ahmed (25), they recovered from 99-7 to post 181 all out.

Jamie Davies (4-38), Will Briggs (3-41) and Matthew Cockshott (3-35) did the damage for a Bingley side who included Yorkshire’s former England international Matthew Hoggard in their line-up.

Ahmed also shone with the ball, returning 3-39 from 15 overs to help reduce Bingley to 67-5, but Bingley edged to their target with six overs and three wickets to spare, thanks largely to David Clow’s unbeaten 51

Left-hander Clow hit a six and five fours as he revived his side with crucial assistance from James Davies (26) and Hoggard (26no).

Bradford & Bingley have a 14-point lead over Baildon, whileEast Bierleyare fourth 27 points adrift, although they have a game in hand on the front runners having sat out last Saturday’s matches.

Gomersalare seventh after slipping to a four-wicket defeat at home to Saltaire.

Richard Gould (56) and Shahzaib Khan (50) produced a 70-run stand for the second wicket but although Gulsheraz Ahmed (30), captain Richard Whitehurst (22) and Richard Browning (22no) also chipped in, Gomersal closed on 215-6 as Nadeem Mahommed (3-40) impressed.

Ben Platt and Adam Greenwood claimed two wickets apiece in reply but Saltaire reached their target with 22 balls to spare thanks to contributions from Tom Slater (55), Waleed Akhtar (34) and Usman Arshad (36no).

Hartshead Moormade Division Two leaders Bankfoot fight all the way for their five wicket win.

Moor recovered from 87-7 to post a score of 180-9 thanks to Joel Pollard (44no) and Danny Squire (38).
