THE countdown is on and fingers are crossed as our local athletes prepare for their big moments at the Olympic Games in Beijing.
Emily Freeman, 27, from Mirfield, will make her first appearance next Tuesday (August 19) as she starts her quest for gold in the 200m.
The first round at the Bird's Nest Stadium will be in the 2am to 4.30am timeslot (British time), with the second round between noon and 4pm.
If Emily wins through the heats, the 200m semi-finals are on Wednesday with the final next Thursday – both are in the afternoon sessions.
Dewsbury-born Alistair Brownlee, 20, will be competing in the triathlon in Beijing and will be going for gold in three tough events.
The Under-23 World Champion starts with a 1,500m swim, followed by a 40km cycle ride and finishes with a 10km run. The triathlon action starts in the early hours of Tuesday morning.
