MIRFIELD Parish Cavaliers face a crucial trip to Northowram Fields as they bid to haul themselves out of the Central Yorkshire League Premier Division relegation zone (start 1pm).

Parish’s defeat to title-chasing Wrenthorpe last week, coupled with
Scholes’ emphatic win over bottom side East Ardsley, has seen Parish slip to second-bottom, although they are just four points behind Northowram.

Parish suffered an agonising two-wicket defeat to Fields on the opening day of the season and they can ill afford a similar result tomorrow, especially as Scholes appear to be hitting a run of form.

Another side bang in form are first division Hopton Mills, who stretched their winning run to four matches last Saturday.

Hopton have a good chance to gauge how much they have improved when they welcome promotion-chasing Buttershaw St Pauls to Woodbottom tomorrow.

Having taken no points from their opening seven matches, Mills have picked up 22 from their last four to move fourth-bottom.

Moorlands travel to Woodkirk aiming to avenge their opening day defeat and climb into the top four.

Andrew Fortis (69no) and Kieran Voelki (50) guided them to a nine-wicket win over East Leeds last week and they will be looking to extend a good run which has seen them lose only one of their last four games.

Hanging Heaton face an uphill struggle to avoid relegation from Bradford League Division One in the second half of the season.

Last week’s 11th defeat of the campaign, to Baildon, leaves the Bennett Lane side 44 points adrift of safety ahead of tomorrow’s trip to Pudsey St Lawrence (1.30pm).

A further blow for Heaton is that they will be without pace bowlers Nick Summerscales and David Stiff for the rest of the season after they missed last Saturday’s deadline to play.

Stiff, who has not featured for the club after signing for Somerset in April, will now not be allowed to play for any remaining games.

Summerscales, one of the most consistent bowlers in the Bradford League, has missed the first half of the season with a knee injury.

If he manages to regain fitness before September, Heaton would need special dispensation for him to play but it is highly unlikely it would be granted.

Heaton’s second team moved second in their section with victory over Baildon last Saturday.

It is a big weekend for Heaton as they entertain champions East Bierley tomorrow and then host Woodlands in the semi-final of the Crowther Cup on Sunday (1pm).

Mirfield remain second-bottom of the Huddersfield Central League Premier Section, despite last week’s nine-wicket victory over Flockton.

They have a good chance of making to back-to-back wins tomorrow when bottom side Leymoor visit Memorial Park (2pm).

Thornhill and Westborough’s clash at high-flying Thurstonland has been moved to Sunday.
