HANGING Heaton continued their slide down Bradford League Division One after a frustrating weekend.
A home game with Pudsey St Lawrence, like all local cricket, was washed out last Saturday while they succumbed to a four-wicket defeat at leaders Woodlands on Sunday and slipped to eighth.
The strength and depth of Heaton's batting was tested by some fierce bowling by champions Woodlands.
Haroon Rashid rallied to the call and produced a fine 72, the best score in the game, which included two sixes and six fours in 132 balls. Alan Mynett made 29 and Richard Thomas 24 as
Heaton were restricted to 168-9. Safraz Ahmed claimed 3-32 in 15 overs, while Pieter Swanepoel took 3-21 in nine.
Nick Summerscales's early dismissal of Scott Richardson (5) provided hope but it was quickly shattered as Sam Frankland got into his stride.
He was dismissed for 49 by the reliable Summerscales (4-63) but Tim Orrell hit 26 and Adam Goldthorpe was unbeaten on 35 as he took Woodlands to 172-6.
Heaton's Seconds suffered a 49-run defeat at Bennett Lane. Chasing 220-6, thanks to Harry Smallwood's 80, Heaton were bowled out for 171.
Dave Lawrence (40) top scored but Tom Smallwood took 4-38 to see Woodlands to victory.
Earlier, Peter Byrne took 3-51.
