SAVILE Stars maintained the pressure at the top of the Leeds-West Riding League Division One following an emphatic 199-run win over Stanley Falcons at Sands Lane last Saturday.
Naveed Hafeez led the Stars innings with a sparkling 96, Tahir Siddique supported with a half-century, while there was a late flurry of 25 from Zahid Ayub, as the home side racked up an impressive 282.

In the absence of captain Iftikhar Ifrahim, Siddique then opened the bowling for the first time in his career and picked up three wickets.

The Stars used all 10 bowlers as Stanley were dismissed for just 83.

J Pickersgill was the visitors’ best player as he collected 4-84 before top scoring with 27.

Savile Stars face a top-table clash with leaders Caribbean tomorrow.

Caribbean have won all eight of their matches so far in their quest to win the Leeds-West Riding League in their final season before moving to the Central Yorkshire, while the Stars are also unbeaten.

Savile Stars’ only blemishes so far have come via two abandoned matches and they have won their other six games so something must give tomorrow.

Caribbean maintained their advantage at the top with a 61-run victory over Newton Hill last Saturday, while Netherton are third after a 17-run defeat to Methley.

The Division Two table mirrors the first with Caribbean A just ahead of Savile Stars A and the two sides are set to meet at Sands Lane tomorrow.
