MOORLANDS and Hopton Mills have just five games left to get themselves out of trouble at the foot of the Central Yorkshire League Division One.
The Mirfield sides are level on 25 points, two behind Buttershaw St Paul's, but Moorlands have played a game more than their rivals and sit out matches next Saturday (August 23).
Hopton Mills have a good chance of picking up much-needed points tomor
row when they go to mid-table Wakefield St Michael's, who have little to play for, while Moorlands entertain fourth-placed Carlton.
Buttershaw travel to second-placed Altofts tomorrow, so it could offer a good chance for Mills and Moorlands to pull clear of danger.
Crucially both sides also have to meet the Saints. Moorlands make the trip to Buttershaw on September 6, while Hopton welcome them to Woodbottom on the final day (September 13).
Although next season's Central Yorkshire Alliance will contain six divisions, it has not been finalised how many teams will be promoted and relegated from Division One and the lower divisions.
The league could decide not to relegate anybody from the first division, following Wakefield City's demise, but may opt to drop one down and promote two, so both Hopton and Moorlands must finish above Buttershaw.
Mirfield Parish Cavaliers are the form team with five straight wins in the Premier Division.
They remain in sixth place but are level on points with Jack Hampshire Trophy finalists Wakefield Thornes and just six behind fourth-placed Townville.
They face a tough test if they are to make it six wins on the bounce as they visit Methley while
Ossett can take a huge step towards guaranteeing their top-flight status tomorrow if they win at Batley.
Sunday sees the Jack Hampshire Memorial Trophy final when Liversedge take on Wakefield Thornes at Methley (start 1.30pm).
n All-rounder Chris Schofield returns from suspension as Hanging Heaton host Manningham Mills in Bradford League Division One tomorrow (1pm).
Schofield has missed five matches but with Alan Mynett and Mark Inwood back off holiday, the Heaton line-up is much stronger.
Victory could see Heaton go sixth and they may have opening bowler Imran Arif made available by his county, Worcestershire, who do not play until next Wednesday.
n Mirfield beat the weather in the Huddersfield Central League last week but lost by seven-wicket to Cawthorne, who took over at the top.
Mirfield, who are sixth, welcome seventh-placed Thurstonland to Memorial Park tomorrow (2pm), while Thornhill and Westborough, 16 points adrift of second-placed Hoylandswaine host Cawthorne.
