VOLLEYBALL teams from all over the North of England descended on Cleckheaton on Sunday to take part in a competition organised by local clubs, Boathouse and the Hawks which have bases in Dewsbury, Halifax and at Cleckheaton.
More than 200 people attended the annual tournament, held at the Albert Morton fields at Whitcliffe Mount. The event is in its fifth year and has become a popular fixture in the summer volleyball calendar.
As well as giving teams a chance to play outdoors the event also acted as a magnet to those people, adults and children, who wanted to try the fast moving sport.
Members of the Boathouse and Hawks clubs were on hand to give coaching to those that wanted it and to organise matches.
The tournament was a 4x4 event which sees teams of four players each pitting their skills against each other. There were sections for men’s, women’s and mixed teams as well as a separate competition for school teams.
The Boathouse and Hawks volleyball teams play outdoors at Whitclffe Mount during the summer months each Wednesday from 6.30pm. Visit www.boathouse. millbridge.de/ for more details.
