SHANNON Matthews's stepfather Craig Meehan has appeared in court charged with 11 counts of possessing indecent images of children.
Mr Meehan, 22, arrived at Dewsbury Magistrates Court this morning in a police van, wearing a black football t-shirt and grey tracksuit bottoms.

In court, he spoke only to confirm his name and address. He did not enter a plea.

He was remanded in custody and will next appear at Dewsbury Magistrates Court on Friday April 11.

Mr Meehan was arrested yesterday at his home on Moorside Road, Dewsbury Moor.

A West Yorkshire Police spokesman said: "A 22-year-old man has been charged with 10 specimen offences of possession of indecent images of children.

"In relation to the welfare of the family's children, it is being dealt with by social services. Police policy is we are not commenting on the welfare of the children."

Mr Meehan has lived with Shannon's mother, Karen Matthews, 32, for five years.

Shannon, nine, was missing for 24 days after failing to return from school.

Mr Meehan's uncle Michael Donovan, 39, of Lidgate Gardens, Dewsbury, has been charged with her kidnap.
