DEWSBURY'S MP has backed calls for people in Dewsbury Moor to stay calm as the Shannon Matthews investigation continues.
Shahid Malik followed police in appealing for cool heads and calm in light of charges being brought against nine-year-old Shannon's mum Karen.

The 32-year-old from Moorside Road appeared in court to face charges of child neglect and perverting the course of justice on Wednesday.

Other members of Shannon's extended family have been arrested and released on bail.

Mr Malik said: "We are all very keen to see a speedy resolution to the case so that life in Dewsbury can get back to normal. Local people can best help the police investigation by staying cool and calm and by continuing to provide information.

"There is a great deal of genuine frustration at recent events and much impatience but for those genuinely interested in a successful outcome they will understand that justice is achieved in the courtrooms of this land and not on its streets.

"The police have done an exceptional job and the response of local people has been second to none - we now need to maintain this partnership to achieve a swift and just conclusion."
